the ultra deep sea made his stomach turn, but even more with the elements of the interdream space weaved into it. though ollie was plenty well-traveled, he hadn't yet had many experiences that made him well-equipped for it.

[break][break] "we're supposed to be looking for rockets, right?" he purses his lips. "anything specific we ought to be looking for?"

It was such a relief to see a familiar face in this alien realm. [break][break]

GIDEON GRAVES had been caught here, stuck in a skirmish between LEAGUE and ROCKET, doing his best to avoid confrontation with enemy forces. It was by sheer luck that his ranger friend had found him within the Ultra Deep Sea.[break][break]

“Ollie, you should be the one telling me what to look for.” Gideon’s tone was all good-humored exasperation. His friend always seemed to find a way to tease out the silver lining in even the worst situations. “Haven’t you fought Rockets before?”[break][break]

Scribe, the professor’s ROTOM, hovered sporadically around his shoulders. It had exited it’s usual tablet for a more… battle-ready form.

[break][break] the words sink in perhaps slower than they should, considering his position within the league forces. in ollie's defense, though, all the times that he had met rockets had mostly been when they were undercover — and probably not as often as maybe others had. people like Eva Morales and paxton concordas.

[break][break] he flashes a dumb smile at GIDEON GRAVES. "i met one at mt. pyre, and one just outside of here..." he tried not to think about how terrifying the latter encounter was. "but don't they all look different?"

[break][break] a pause.

[break][break] "have you met them before?" his brow furrows, before a teasing smile dances upon his lips. "get much traffic at the museum, doctor?"

[break][break] in front of them, the islands shift greedily - it brings forth memories of an expedition that he'd rather not face - so instead he focuses on the sharp cut lines of GIDEON GRAVES handsome face.

Ollie's dumb smile was met with Gideon's own familiar, thin-lipped grin. The ranger's gesture was reassuring, in a way, so much so that the feeling of it painted the mist around them a soft pink. [break][break]

"I suppose they do." Look different. He assumed most even hid among them, living their day to day much the same as the rest of the public. Except in times of war, like today.[break][break]

"Not that I know of, no." Gideon responded, softer this time. He knew Ollie was teasing, per usual. But the notion was still a frightening one. "Let's hope they have little interest in my fossils and old books."[break][break]

Even as he spoke it, Gideon knew it was a hollow hope. ROCKET's greedy tendrils were likely hooked in all facets of the region.[break][break]

"... hm?" A flash of something suddenly caught the professor's attention. "Did you see that...?"[break][break]

A shadow in the mist, enormous. Fading in and out between the conjured islands.[break][break]

Was that... bone? Horns?

[break][break] ollie's shout comes at a moment's notice, before the tall ranger is throwing himself at the league researcher. there's the sound of shrapnel snapping against the ground beneath them before whatever that is is racing towards them, racing towards gideon with the power of a headlong rush.

[break][break] evergrande's captain throws himself over GIDEON GRAVES just in time, tossing a pokeball out almost immediately. "sorbet! go!" he hisses. the abomasnow lets out a mighty roar as tendrils of light form around her, hands wrapping around what appears to be the base of an enormous hammer.

[break][break] when the over-sized donphan races again, it crashes into the hammer's base with a crack of intensity.

[break][break] amongst the commotion, ollie lowers his head to the body beneath him.

Giant ones, barreling straight for them.[break][break]

Before Gideon could even think to move, he was being knocked out of the way by ollie morales. Quick thinking on the ranger's part meant he'd been saved from being trampled by a gigantic, prehistoric-looking Pokémon. What the hell was that thing?[break][break]

Groaning from the impact, he looked up at Ollie and responded in a relieved voice, "Yeah, thanks to you."[break][break]

The crack of the hammer caused a huge impact, but instead of injuring the gigantic Pokémon, it simply... poofed in a cloud of mist. It wasn't gone for long, though, before it rematerialized a few feet away and continued its charge.[break][break]

"Shit, shit, shit. We need to get up." Scrambling out from beneath Ollie, Gideon quickly righted himself and ordered his ROTOM to use THUNDER WAVE. Was this thing even capable of being paralyzed? Gideon supposed they were about to find out.

[break][break] "um - " his voice edges with uncertainty. "is that thing even - "

[break][break] "oh shit. you're right." ollie clambers to his feet before he can say anything else, reaching for the other's elbow to tug him upright. "come on dude, let's go!"

[break][break] ollie reaches for the other's hand to tug him along, preferably away from the creature, as their pokemon engage in battle. SLUDGE BOMB explode from his venusaur towards the creature, following the rotom's zaps of energy.

Fingers tightened around ollie morales' hand as Gideon was tugged away from the... damn, admittedly fascinating creature. One minute it was corporeal, the other not. It possessed some sort of vagrant tangibility. [break][break]

Curiosity getting the best of him, the professor couldn't help but look over his shoulder and gawk at the thing while Ollie pulled them along. He was in awe.[break][break]

"What sort of beast is that?"[break][break]

THUNDER WAVE had barely stalled it for long. SLUDGE WAVE had a similar effect, the viscous poison slicking off its dense tufts of fur like water off a raincoat.[break][break]

"Do you think we could capture it?"[break][break]

[break][break] he needs someone to hold his hand. if it's not giada morgan or illeana reyes, then it must be GIDEON GRAVES.

[break][break] "iunno." he blinks, looking back at the scene. both frog and sorbet help keep it at bay with the help of his friend's pokemon. but just one ferocious snarl and his abomasnow goes sailing in the air, pierced by it's horns. ollie is quick to return the ice type to it's pokeball before further damage can be done.

[break][break] when he turns to gideon, though, there's a gleam in his eye.

The excitement in Ollie's eyes is reflected in Gideon's own. They were on the cusp of something completely brand new here. Something novel to science, as far as he knew. [break][break]

Dr. Graves wasn't about to leave here without at least attempting to capture the beast for study.[break][break]

Considering it looked like an alternate form of DONPHAN, Gideon reasoned that its type weaknesses would be similar. He released his MEGANIUM to join the fray, instructing it to release both a POISON POWDER into the air and a MAGICAL LEAF in the prehistoric-looking Pokémon's direction.[break][break]

If ollie morales's own Pokémon were able to weaken it, the professor would then lob an Ultra Ball at the thing.
